There are times in life when it feels like what we have to offer is small. We wonder how it could be of any use or help. There's powerless feeling. Small in a big world. There's a story about a boy who gives his simple small lunch of fish & bread over to Jesus. The need is big. Feed a hillside crowd of 5,000 people. What could a boys small lunch possibly accomplish? When placed in the hands of Jesus, the miraculous and impossible happens. Everyone ate, and there was even leftovers. The face. It is our visual identifier for people we know, people who we find attractive, people we feel threatened by, and how others identify us as well. It’s our visual canvas for displaying emotion. A smile, tearful eyes, a pensive gaze – these things transcend language. The face is powerful. Often we don’t often stop to examine its power because it is part of our normal everyday life. A few years ago I created a series not only depicting various facial features and the power of their expression, but also experimented in the media used. Three things in are also explored in my work: line, texture and color. Take it at “face” value or look deeper. What do you see?
