#tbt (are we still doing those?) this is the origin of “Mikebone”. The year was 1990-something and I was a student at @svanyc - I was enrolled in a 3D illustration class where we had to think up concepts and figure out how to execute them. . We were submitting designs for a student show that was happening at @whitneymuseum for an opening of works by #jeanmichelbasquiat . My “Mikebone” was selected to be display. It was a the project where I had to learn how to weld, drilled holes in various size dog biscuits and glued wire to hold it all together. It was an extremely fragile sculpture. He made it through the show and home, but he met his demise shorty thereafter. All that’s left is this photo, and the moniker “Mikebone” . The reason I still use it today? It was the project that taught me, when you have a great concept, you figure out how to execute it no matter what. Learn a new skill, hire a friend, lean in and do your best. . I don’t really remember much of the movie, but any sci-fi 70’s & 80’s robot when I was a kid fit in right at home. Sidebar - I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys (especially Bob) inspired Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales. . Sadly, I’m not sure what happened to these guys. They probably got passed down to my younger brother & cousin. .
