Sometimes people say jerky things. . It could even be people we look up to. And it’s not that they ARE jerks, but they just said something that wounded. . What they said might be more about them then you. And to be honest, sometimes we’re the ones who say jerky things. We forget our words have weight and impact. . I recently had someone I look up to say something indirectly about something we discussed. Maybe it was in the name of looking for that snarky comment that makes them look good in the eyes of others. Who knows. . What I do know is that it stung. In that moment I had a choice. Would I carry this persons words around with me, or would I choose to let it roll off? . I know that’s much easier said than done. But cling to truth. And expose the lies. . Our words matter. We can use them for building up or tearing down. There’s actually a proverb that says “Words kill, words give life. They’re either poison or fruit - YOU CHOOSE.” . Let’s look for opportunities to give life through our words. I have a confession. Something I have to keep learning over and over. . As a creative, I have this desire to hold my cards close to my chest. To clutch my art so tightly until I feel like it’s time to make the “big reveal”. There’s a chance of suffocating the art before it even has a chance. . I keep learning that the better way is to hold loosely and invite others into the process. It feels... icky sometimes. Like asking someone to taste something not fully baked. .
