Perhaps this is what entrepreneurship has taught me most: it has taught me how to fight for myself. @tmfproject . When I was younger people would often ask me if I ever thought about going into business for myself. I immediately answered no. That though was so uncomfortable for me. I wanted safe. Controlled. Predictable. Or so I thought. . The truth is I lacked the confidence in myself and my abilities and it was easier to just show up and be told what to do. But as I aged, and had several experiences ( like my “safe” jobs weren’t really safe ) I learned the value of my work and through showing up everyday (and fighting my way) I gained confidence. So I resonate with this quote. Because I would not have learned the things I have apart from this journey. ...and I feel like I’m only getting started. The opposite of depression is not happiness. The opposite of depression is purpose. ~ Cathy Heller . The worst part of my time spent in depression was feeling the lack of hope, and feeling trapped. Things I though should have brought me purpose, didn’t. . It’s easy to play a role that others have assigned you, or that you’ve allowed them to. I spent the first half of my life showing up asking “what am I supposed to do? Just tell me what to do”. Even in my creative acts, I lacked real purpose. I wasn’t taking ownership over my own creativity. . What I’ve found is the best purpose is in redeeming your own story for the benefit of others. Leveraging your creativity to help others. It’s not about being clever.
